CFD-DEM

Open-source CFD, DEM and coupled CFD-DEM: testing flow and bulk material before anything is built.

Simulation informed design.

Using powerful and state-of-the-art open-source software to simulate your problem.

CFD models how a fluid moves, DEM models how particles do, and the two can be coupled where both matter. All three run on mature open-source codes, so a case can be handed over for you to re-run without a licence.

CFD

OpenFOAM

The open-source CFD software: mature, highly capable, and well proven at scale, even for the biggest tasks.

DEM

LIGGGHTS

Proven DEM code derived from LAMMPS, with realistic contact models, cohesion, particle-wall wear and heat transfer options.

GPU DEM and CFD-DEM

PhasicFlow

A newer coupled CFD-DEM code, building further on OpenFOAM and LIGGGHTS. Designed for GPU use.

Worked examples

A very dilute and dense example of fluid-particle, prediction can be made on separation efficiency, mixing behaviour and pressure drop can be determined based on these simulations.

Simulation vs. reality

The simulation is only useful if it predicts reality.

Accuracy makes a model expensive, an accurate model needs a lot of time to fully develop. However, creating a useful model on which you can base design choices can be very affordable. Even simple models can explain scaling and sizing issues without the need for prototyping. Ask for the options!

What you keep

No vendor lock-in

The case files, meshes and material parameters produced for you are yours, and OpenFOAM and PhasicFlow are open source, so you can always use and iterate on them. All simulation specialists can pick it up.
